Why printed envelopes?

Once the letterhead, the business card and the invoice card are done, the envelope is what is left. A hand-written address undoes a well-made set at the very first door.
A window ends addressing twice
The address on the letter shows through the window, so nothing is written on the envelope and the right letter cannot end up in the wrong one.

Side seams, the glue line and the flap will not take ink evenly, so leave 10 mm clear all round. On the windowed envelope nothing can be printed over the window — roughly a 90 × 45 mm area starting 20 mm right and 15 mm up from the bottom-left corner.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I print all the way to the edge?
No. The envelope goes through the press already cut, folded and glued, and nothing is trimmed afterwards — so ink past the paper lands on the press rather than on a part that gets cut away. The side seams, the glue line and the flap will not take ink evenly either. Finish the design 10 mm in from every edge.
Should I choose windowed or plain?
Windowed, if you post in volume: the address is already on the letter, so nothing is written on the envelope and the right letter cannot end up in the wrong one. Choose plain if you want the whole face free for the design — both cost the same.
Can anything be printed over the window?
No. The window is covered with a transparent film that ink will not key to, and printing on it makes the address underneath unreadable. The window is roughly a 90 × 45 mm area starting 20 mm right and 15 mm up from the bottom-left corner; keep your design clear of it.
Why is 1 000 the smallest run?
That is the run we are quoted for. On an offset press the plates and make-ready do not get cheaper with a shorter run, so anything less stops making sense per envelope. If you need a different length, write to us and we will get a price.
What fits in an A4 pocket envelope?
The 24 × 32 cm pocket envelope takes an A4 document unfolded — contracts, catalogues, proposals and short bound sets.
I do not have a design — can you help?
For now this product only accepts print-ready files. A step that fills a ready-made template from your company details — the way letterheads work — is being built. In the meantime write to us and we will point you at someone who can draw it.
