Growth Ruler — one a family marks for twenty years

A 1.7 m strip for the wall, marked off centimetre by centimetre. It carries your child’s name and birth date — and if you already have measurements, each one is drawn at exactly the place it belongs on the scale, with the date beside it and the age they were that day. ⚠ A ruler is only true if it is hung at the height its scale assumes, so the rule is printed ON the ruler: the heavy line at the foot must sit 50 cm above the floor the child stands on. It is there so that there is something to read the day it is hung again. Why 50 cm and not the floor? A skirting board stands proud of the wall, so a print hung down to the floor bows over it — and that bow pulls every mark above it down. The ruler covers 50 to 200 cm. The record column is printed pale in every one of the six colours, because you finish this object yourself, in pen, over twenty years. Two widths — 30 cm and 40 cm, both 170 cm tall — and two materials: PVC banner that comes off the wall and moves house with you, or matte self-adhesive vinyl that goes flat onto the wall and never shifts. It ships rolled, in its own tube.
