Daylight — a year over one place

Pick a place and a year. For all 365 days the poster draws the moment the sun rose and the moment it set: two curves, the daylight between them, the night above and below. The shape that band makes is a signature of latitude. İstanbul's is not Antalya's, and the further north you go the more summer swells and winter pinches. Two different years of the same city are almost identical — because what changed is not the sky, it is what happened to you. So the poster writes those down too: mark any days you like, and under each one it says what the sun did — "23 April 2019 — the sun rose at 06:12 and set at 19:23; the day lasted 13 h 11 min." Times are not read off a stock table: every day is solved individually against NASA/JPL orbital data, and sunrise is taken as the convention every almanac uses — the moment the sun's UPPER LIMB touches the horizon. Times are given on that place's own clock, so in a year with summer time the curve steps, because that morning really did jump. Underneath are the year's four turning points, and that is the surprising part: the earliest sunset falls about two weeks BEFORE the shortest day.
